The Broward Arts Journalism Alliance (BAJA)—a program of the Broward Cultural Division—is expanding! Relaunched in 2023, BAJA highlights Broward County’s dynamic arts and culture scene through written features, photo essays, and video content. Our stories are shared across BAJA’s platform, the Division’s social and web channels, and distributed to regional media outlets throughout South Florida.
This open call seeks creative, community-connected content creators to join our 2025 contributor team—especially those with experience in digital storytelling, video production, and social media–friendly content.
Whether you’re a traditional arts writer, freelance video producer, photojournalist, or influencer building your brand—this is your opportunity to get paid to tell the stories that shape South Florida’s cultural identity.
We’re hiring a diverse team of freelance content creators with skills in:
- Arts writing and reporting
- Short- and long-form video production
- Video editing and post-production
- Social media content creation (e.g., Reels, Shorts)
- Photography and photo essays
- Event coverage and creative storytelling
Applicants must:
- Be based in South Florida (priority to Broward County residents)
- Show at least 12 months of residency in Broward, Miami-Dade, Palm Beach, or Monroe Counties
- Have experience creating content about arts, culture, or community
Note: Past BAJA applicants who were not selected are encouraged to reapply. Current employees, consultants, board members, or funders of the Broward Cultural Division are not eligible.
Selection Criteria
Applications will be reviewed by a panel of Cultural Division staff and industry professionals. Selected contributors will be hired as independent freelancers at competitive market rates.
We’re looking for:
- Strong visual or written storytelling ability
- Original, culturally aware content ideas
- Familiarity with Broward County’s arts and culture ecosystem
- Technical skill in content production and/or editing
